Let’s face it. Fear and anxiety affect everyone. You suddently freeze. Your body tenses up. Your breathing and heart rate change.

The most important strategy you can practice during intense situations or when dealing with intense emotions is to simply be present. Realize you are safe in this moment and there is nothing to fear.

Be aware of your body. It’s not just something to do during meditation. It may take more than just thinking about it. You may have to call to your legs (a quick hand pat on the legs) to bring you back to this moment. Breathing techniques are also important. There are plenty of options out there for bringing calm to this moment.

It is important that you don’t feed into overwhelming emotions. Don’t try to fight the thought/emotion — let it go by.

Remember that you have no control over outside things that happen.

You can get through this moment with a calm mind and body. You have the power within you. You are strong!
